Now that you know what type of content to post and not to post, read What Makes a Good Pin?

Hi, Ande.
I’ll have to respectfully ask you one thing: why do you think people should only post the kind of things that you think they should only post?
What if I am really passionate about Spraypaint Art, Hairy Shirtless Men or — gasp — Justin Bieber?
Why should I not have the right to post these things?
I am expecting an answer. You’re a fan of beauty, so I need not remind you that it’s ugly and rude to ignore, right?
Cheers,
Thanks for the comment! Not sure why you’re assuming that I’ll ignore your comment. I love feedback.
You’re right. Users have a right to post whatever they want. My article is based out of the opinion of what is more appropriate for this particular social site. Pinterest was born out people posting what is beautiful…and to an extent, beauty is subjective. But I also believe Pinterest is a more intentional platform than, let’s say, Facebook. It’s intentional in that the whole purpose is to share beautiful things. Although, the more people that join Pinterest, the “muddier” this will look. If it turns into a cheesy billboard-type advertising site or a bunch of pictures of Beiber and (what most would consider) crappy art, then it will lose its integrity. So I would have to ask the people that post pictures that don’t really fit what this site is about…Why are you posting it? What are you hoping to achieve?
I’ll bet that if I sent a poll to all Pinterest users, the vast majority (or at least the vast majority a year ago before it blew up) would agree with me. But that’s the great thing about the internet: we can do what we want.
